Let Them “Hear”

Problem

Of 2.68 crore disabled people in India, 20% are hearing impaired. India has one of the highest deaf populations in the world and large of them number in 0- 14 yrs. age group. While many causes of hearing can be treated by early detection and care, there are only few programs to prevent and treat ear diseases and help people with hearing impairment

The intervention

Ashwidea’s curated project focuses on improving the lives of hearing impaired working with our NGO partner through following measures

Community outreach through a Mobile van
  • Project Team consisting of Project Coordinator, ENT Doctors, Audiologists and Community ear care health Crew (CEHC) visit Aanganwadi and Government schools and provides services like ENT & Hearing screening.
  • A “state of the art” Mobile Hearing Clinic facility is set up, with soundproof fabrication in an Air-conditioned environment, and fitted with Audiological Equipment
Diagnosis and recommendations
  • The ear related issues like compacted wax, ear discharge, foreign bodies in the ear, etc., will be addressed with suitable treatment with a prescription.
  • The Audiologist conducts screening through pure tone audiometry (PTA) and Otoacoustic Emission Testing (OAE) for the children and offers the hearing evaluation.
  • Any child whose hearing is below 40 decibels is referred to hearing clinic at Ashray Akruti. The children are provided hearing evaluation at the Hearing Clinic
Treatment , review and counselling
  • Hearing aids are fitted at the clinic
  • Parents and teachers are made aware of diagnosis and care needed
  • Review Camps are conducted after a week at the school post the medication. De waxing is done for the children during the Review camps
  • Facilitate Cochlear Implant surgery for children with hearing loss wherever necessary
